📡 The Local Media Loop

Local newsrooms can't cover everything alone.

Join the Local Media Loop — a cooperative of local newspapers, public radio, independent journalists and community newsrooms who pool reporting and share the cost of professional polling so that no town's government runs in the dark.

Why your newsroom should join

🛰️

Shared reporting

Every member has fewer reporters covering the same budget meetings. Pool beats, share leads, and cover more ground together without giving up your voice.

📊

Credible, affordable polling

Professional polling is out of reach for most local outlets. The Loop shares the cost at just 50¢ per response — half the $1 we first discussed — so members run real polls that earn headlines.

🗄️

Verified civic data

Access a clean, continuously-updated directory of federal, state and county officials, committees and bills — and request documents together.

🤝

A seat at the table

Coordinated questions, shared fact-checks and a joint editorial calendar give local media collective weight with the officials we all cover.

The 50-cent shared-polling model

Our original plan priced shared polls at $1 per response. We've cut it to 50¢ per response so even the smallest outlets participate. Here's what that means:

  • 50¢ per completed survey response — you pay only for what you use.
  • Budget ahead: 1,000 responses = $500 (was $1,000).
  • Results belong to the Loop's members to publish — with a shared methodology so it's credible.
  • Every member pays the same low rate; volume doesn't get priority over accuracy.

How the Loop works

  1. Sign up as a Media Loop member — newsroom, public radio, independent journalist.
  2. Get verified. We confirm your outlet and assign you a listing in our public newsroom directory.
  3. Propose a poll or join one. Members vote on questions together.
  4. Pay 50¢ per response, pooled across the Loop.
  5. Publish. Results and methodology are shared with all members for their own stories.
